This project was my first design for children. At first I found it difficult to pinpoint the correct style for the age group because 9–11 year olds can have a range of different abilities. The aim was to make the cover look slightly grown up but still have child-like elements. The story line is also slightly scary, I wanted to portray the dark side of the story but also make it look interesting and exciting.
I designed these illustrations digitally and then focused on creating depth using shadow and texture.
I experimented a lot with typeface because I wanted to ensure I used an appropriate style that was easy to read, eye catching and fit with the illustration style.
